The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of Zhejiang University was founded in 2006. The institute consists of five research groups: Lab of Tumor and Endocrine Pharmacology, Lab of Drug Toxicology, Lab of Neuropharmacology, Lab of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Lab of Structural Pharmacology.  The institute is dedicated to understanding a variety of disease, so as to discover new drugs.

Currently, there are 13 faculties, including 5 full professors, 7 associated professors, 1 lecturer; the prizes they were awarded with includes “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, “The National Science Fund for Outstanding Youth Scholars”, “Changjiang Distinguished Professor, “Changjiang Outstanding Young Professor”, “Millions of Talent Project”, “Special government allowances of the State Council”, “New Century Excellent Talents in University”, “Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University” and so on. The institute has established several National and Provincial Key Laboratories as well as Key disciplines, including the National Innovative Team of the Science and Technology Innovation Talent Promotion Program, the National Third-Level Laboratory in Chinese Traditional Medicine and Drugs, the Key Discipline of Chinese Medicine Pharmacology in Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Anti-Cancer Drug Research, as well as Innovative Team Specialized in the Research and Development of Small molecular Drugs. The institute also participated in the establishment of the Key Laboratory for the Treatment and Prevention of Special Damage in the Army, Key Laboratory for Medical Neural Biology in the Ministry of Health, and Innovative Team Specialized in Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders in the Ministry of Education. It has also participated in the establishment of the Evaluation and Research Center of Drug Safety in Zhejiang University which is authenticated by SNDA.

We have been granted with 9 major projects from the National Natural Science Foundation (Major Projects, Distinguished Young Scholars, Outstanding Youth Scholars), 1 Platform Construction Project and 5 new drug candidate projects from the National Key Innovative New Drug Program, 1 National Key Research Project, 1 National Special International Science and Technology Cooperation Project, more than 50 National Natural Sciences and Youth Projects; more than 200 publications (SCI); more than 20 granted invention patents; 2 clinical approvals of new drugs; and more than 10 natural science awards of Zhejiang Province and Ministry of Education.
