2012, Yangtze River Delta Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry was held by Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Antibiotic Committee of Zhejiang Pharmaceutical Association, Shanghai Pharmaceutical Chemistry Committee, Pharmaceutical Chemistry Committee of Jiangsu Pharmaceutical Association in School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Zhejiang University (ZJU) in Nov. 2nd and Nov. 3rd. School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of ZJU, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Zhejiang University of Technology and Zhejiang Technology & Service Platform of New Drug Innovation undertook the preparation of the symposium with the strong support of Huahai Pharmaceutical and Neo-dongguang Pharm. Co., Ltd of Zhejiang. More than 360 delegates from more than 20 universities, colleges, scientific research institutes and pharmaceutical enterprises of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Anhui, participated in the symposium, which accepted 111 abstracts totally. Prof. Hu Yongzhou, Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Antibiotic Committee of Zhejiang Pharmaceutical Association and Director of the Research Center for Innovative Drug Discovery of Zhejiang University, presided over the symposium; Shen Jingkang, Principal Investigator of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of Chinese Academy of Science and Vice Chairman and Secretary General of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Committee of Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, delivered the opening speech.

During the symposium, the one-thousand-talents scheme, Prof. Shao Liming from Fudan University, Prof. Sun Liping from China Pharmaceutical University, Associate Prof. Liang Guang from Wenzhou Medical College and Associate Prof. Zou Hongbin from ZJU delivered reports entitled “the discovery of novel TRIs”, “the design and synthetic methodology of VEGFR-2 inhibitors based on heterocycle-pyridine templates”, “the design, synthesis and evaluation of MD2-targeting anti-inflammatory agents from mono-carbonyl analogues of curcumin” and “chemical biology research on strictosidine synyhase: the key enzyme of alkaloid biosynthesis”, respectively.

More than 60 researchers and graduates from universities, colleges, scientific research institutes and pharmaceutical enterprises of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Anhui participated in the academic exchange associated with drug research and development based on new target, the discovery and optimization of leading compounds, new theories on drug molecule design, as well as novel synthetic or preparative method of drugs or natural products in four branch meeting rooms.

Eight sessions of Yangtze River Delta Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry have been successfully held since 2004. Aiming to promoting the new drug research & development in Yangtze River Delta, even in China, and providing platform for regional collaboration, extensive academic exchange and investigation was carried out in this symposium, which received widespread acclaim.
