The second pharmaceutical analysis disciplines strategic development seminar was successfully held on Sep. 28^th in Zhejiang University by the Pharmaceutical Analysis Professional Committee of Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, Zhejiang University State Key Discipline (Cultivation) of Pharmaceutical Analysis and College of Pharmaceutical sciences. This seminar focused on the following aspects. 1. The role and application of pharmaceutical analysis in pharmacology, toxicology, and biomedical research. 2. The focus and key problems that Chinese pharmaceutical analysis should pay attention to. 3. The characteristics, issues and suggestions of the projects of pharmaceutical analysis in National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 2012.

Nearly 20 experts attended the seminar. The meeting was presided over by Professor Su Zeng, the subject leader of Zhejiang University State Key Discipline (Cultivation) of Pharmaceutical Analysis. Professor Lei Wu, the director of Seven of Medical Sciences (Pharmacy and Pharmacology) of the National Natural Science Foundation, analyzed and summarized the project application and funding of NSFC, 2012, and discussed with delegates about the related information of different types of project of NSFC, 2012. 13 representatives from different universities and institutes in-deeply discussed the direction and targets of Pharmaceutical Analysis in the next 5 to 10 years. In addition to the representatives from the discipline of Pharmaceutical Analysis, other Scientists from Pharmacology, Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutics also added to the discussion.

Finally，Lei Wu concluded remarks. He pointed out the problems raised in the present meeting were wider and deeper than before. He hoped every scientist fully emancipate the mind, enhance creativity, concise research directions, expand the research team, strengthen the interdisciplinary research, and play a leading role to promote the development of disciplines.

This meeting will be important in the rapid development of China’s discipline of Pharmaceutical Analysis.
