The International Symposium on Natural Products Chemistry and Chemical Biology 2011, which was approved by the Ministry of Education of the P. R. China, was successfully held in Hangzhou, China, on November 19th-22nd, 2011.
        The Symposium covered the topics of isolation and structural elucidation of natural products, chemosynthesis and biosynthesis of natural products, chemical biology drug discovery and development, and other related fields. Prof. Yinchu Shen and Prof. Xinsheng Yao, both of whom are members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, were invited as honorary chairman of the Symposium. The Symposim was chaired by both Prof. Jianhua Qi, deputy director of Institute of Materia Medica, Zhejiang University and Prof. Youji Sakagami, the Yongqian Chair Professor of Zhejiang University, China and the Professor of Nagoya University, Japan. More than 200 participants, including authoritative experts and scholars in the field of natural products chemistry and chemical biology from China, Japan, Russia and Italy, and students from institutes and universities throughout the country, attended the Symposium.
        Prof. Qi hosted the opening ceremony. Prof. Sakagami made the opening remarks, and Prof. Jianhong Luo, executive vice president of School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, gave an opening address to the Symposium. In the following two days, twenty invited international and internal speakers gave wonderful lectures on cutting-edge area and development trend of natural products chemistry and chemical biology, and presented their latest research achievements. The participants including scholars, teachers, and students communicated actively in a warm atmosphere. At last, Zhiyun He, vice secretary of Party Committee, Zhejiang University of Technology, Weiguang Shan, dean of College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Zhejiang University of Technology gave closing remarks.
        The Symposium provided a great opportunity for academic exchanges and cooperation among experts and scholars in the fields of natural products chemistry and chemical biology. The audiences expressed their appreciation for benefit from this Symposium and regarded this Symposium as a strong impetus to the natural products chemistry and chemical biology development. The Symposium achieved great success.
        The Symposium was organized by Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, and Nagoya University, Japan, and sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Zhejiang Pharmaceutical Association, Baicao Traditional Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Technology and Service Platform of New Drug Innovation, Committee of Medicinal Chemistry and Antibiotics, and Zhejiang Conba Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd..
