CPS now has 2 class 1 disciplines: Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are 6 class II Disciplines, namely Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, and Microbiology & Biochemical Pharmacy. Pharmaceutical Analysis is national key cultivating discipline, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Analysis are key disciplines of Zhejiang province. Traditional Chinese Medicine is key discipline in Medicine of Zhejiang province. Pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Chemistry of TCM, and Analysis of TCM are key disciplines in Traditional Medicine of Zhejiang province. According to the evaluation of Institute of Degree and Graduate Education of Ministry of Education in 2004, Discipline of Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Medicine both ranked No.5 overall levels in graduate school of pharmacy in China, and Discipline of Pharmacy ranked No.4 in 2009.

CPS has established the Technical Platform for New Drug R&D of Zhejiang province. 3 National Traditional Medicine Research Class ⅢLabs (the highest grade technology): Computer Assisting Traditional Medicine Analysis, TCM Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Analysis & Metabolism of TCM, 3 key labs of TCM of Zhejiang province: TCM Pharmacology and Toxicology, Analysis of TCM and Pharmaceutical Engineering. In addition, CPS has set up collaborative lab of medicinal chemistry with Ecole Normale Superieure. CPS owns modem instruments and facilities on world-class level with a total value of more than 90 million RMB.

CPS has 5 research institutes, namely Institute of Materia Medica, Institute of Pharmaceutical Informatics, Institute of Modem Chinese Medicine, Institute of Pharmacology & Toxicology and Biochemical Pharmaceutics, and Institute of Pharmaceutics, with 17 research labs in the college.

In recent years, it has undertaken over 60 major research including national key research grants such as State 973 projects, 863 projects, National Outstanding Youth Fund Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of key research projects plan, National Natural Science Foundation, and international cooperation projects. More than 640 research articles are indexed by SCI. The college obtained 1 the secondary prize of National Scientificand Technological Progress Award and 15 provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Awards,3 drugs developed by CPS are enlisted in Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Per capita research funding of the College has kept among the forefront of the national pharmacy institutions.
