Prof. Zhang Yongmin was Selected as the Academician of ANP

Zhang Yongmin, Guangbiao Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University (ZJU), Director of the Zhejiang University - Ecole Normale Superieure (ZJU-ENS) Joint Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry and Lifetime Fellow of the Le Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) was selected as the additional academician at the academician conference held by the Académie Nationale de Pharmacie (ANP) on Nov. 7th, 2012. The high honor fully affirmed the outstanding contributions made by Prof. Zhang to his field and was another pleasing piece of news for ZJU-ENS Joint Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry.
Prof. Zhang has been devoted to academic exchange and scientific research cooperation between French scientific research institutes and ZJU over a long period of time. In 2004, ZJU-ENS Joint Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry was established on the initiative of him. As Guangbiao Distinguished Professor, he comes to ZJU annually, participating in academic exchange, offering research guides for us and delivering lectures to graduates. He has successively arranged for three joint training graduates to study for doctoral degree and two teachers to engage in advanced learning in French. Besides, he has arranged for numerous American or French scholars to make academic exchange and three French graduates to study in the laboratory. ZJU-ENS Joint Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry has applied for and obtained the Programme Sino-Fran ais de Recherches Avancées (PRA) associated with French National Research Agency (ANR), and plenty of SCI articles have been published upon the academic cooperation. Additionally, Prof. Zhang promoted the interscholastic cooperation between ZJU and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) (UPMC).
Prof. Zhang received his French doctoral degree in 1986 and was hired by CNRS to be a fellow in department of chemistry and biology in 1991. In 1992, he was promoted to be the lifetime fellow. Prof. Zhang passed through the identification of professor qualification by the French Ministry of Education in 1999 and was promoted to be the research director of CNRS-ENS Joint Laboratory 8642. In 2008, he was elected as the corresponding academician of ANP.
Prof. Zhang has been engaging in the research relevant to biologically active carbohydrates and conducted a series of original works in selective glycosylation, synthesis of structurally complex carbohydrates, carbohydrate-based drug discovery, carbohydrate- carbohydrate interactions and other leading fields in the world.
