A student won the Chinese Pharmaceutical Conference outstanding poster award
2012-10-12 |
The Chinese Pharmaceutics Conference (2012)outstanding poster award was announced lately, 10 posters, from the national universities and research institutes, won the award.
The PhD candidate in pharmaceutics institute, TianYuan Zhang, won honoured this award by his report “Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells expressing HSV/TK via a non-viral vector for targeted cancer gene therapy”.
TianYuan Zhang, supervised by Prof. JianQing Gao, studied the application of the bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) as a drug target delivery carriers in cancer therapy.
This study found that BMSCs can be a good cell carrier for the lung targeted drug delivery system (PDDS). Zhang modified the suicide gene of BMSCs with a novel non-viral vector gene and combined prodrug with BMSCs. The formulation showed significant tumor inhibitory effect on the lung metastatic melanoma bearing mice.
The project provides new ideas for cell-based targeted drug delivery and targeted gene therapy.
As an annual event, the 2012 ChinesePharmaceutics Conference was held on September 20-21 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, which attracted extensive attention of researchers in the fields of pharmacy, material science and industry, etc. More than 600 domestic and international experts and scholars attended this meeting.
Over 30 world-renowned scholars in pharmacy and materials science from China, the United States, Australia, Korea, the Netherlands and some other countries, made special academic reports from academic front view and the latest achievements. Prof. JianQing Gao as an invited guest, made an academic report with the theme of 'Gene Recombinant Mesenchymal Stem Cells: A promising Targeted - Delivery Vehicle In Cancer Gene Therapy", the report raised the participants’ great interest by its innovation and perspective application.
This academic conference has a vital significance to strengthen the cooperation and communication of our college with pharmacy scholars at home and abroad and displayed our research achievements and progresses.
