The institute of pharmaceutics(Zhejiang University), with long persistence onscientificresearch and technological innovation, contributes ongoing attention and achievements on the improvement of drug safetyand efficacy, as well as the in vivo delivery of drug formulations. Meanwhile, the institute always carries on interdisciplinary researchand hasmade great accomplishments in scientific research.
Recently, two young scholars' researches of the institute have been published at high impact research magazines as cover stories, respectively.
The article,Effective Photothermal Chemotherapy Using Doxorubicin-Loaded Gold Nanospheres That Target EphB4 Receptors in Tumors, contributed by Dr. Jian You, was selected in the cover picture of the latest issue of Cancer Research (IF=7.856) (< http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/72/18/4777 >).
Thisresearch, which based on the multifunctional doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded hollow gold nanospheres, realized tumor targeted photothermal treatment, drug controlled release and local tumor targeted chemotherapyat the same time. The nanoparticulate formulationcompletely eliminated the tumorin model animalsand showedfairly low toxicity, provides a novel pathway for effective treatment of tumor.
The titled article Overcoming drug resistance of MCF-7/ADR cells by altering intracellular distribution of doxorubicin via MVP knockdown with a novel siRNA polyamidoamine-hyaluronic acid complexbyDr. Min Han, was published in the latest Journal of Controlled Release (IF=6.499) (http://www.Sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0168365912006323), and was selected as themonth cover picture. JCR Ed. Dr. Park wrotecoverstoryfor this work specially.
This researchdevelopeda novel PAMAM-HA polymericnanocarrier that co-delivered MVP-siRNA and DOX, which could reversedrug resistance of MCF-7/ADR cells to some extent by enhancing intracellularDOX accumulation and allowing DOX access to nucleusafter MVP knockdown with MVP-siRNA, provides new methodologies for the treatment of drug-resistant tumors.
With the joining of more and more young scholars with systemic academic training and innovation capabilities, the college of pharmaceutical science, would exhibit brand new features on scientific research and development in the nearly future.
