The College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPS) at Zhejiang University has a long academic heritage. It originated from the Pharmacy Department of Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine founded in 1913 and the Pharmacy Department of National Zhejiang University set up in 1944, becoming one of the earliest educational organizations for modern pharmacy in China. After the merging of four universities in 1998, CPS was established at Zhejiang University in 1999.
Guided by the college motto of ‘seeking truth and being creative’ and the mission of ‘creating the best medicine for human health’, CPS has achieved conspicuous development and now ranks among the best colleges of pharmaceutical sciences in China. CPS now has 3 specialties for undergraduate studies (pharmacy, pharmaceutics, and traditional Chinese pharmacy), is entitled to confer master’s degrees in 7 programs (pharmacology, pharmaceutical analysis, medicinal chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutics, microbiology and biochemistry, and traditional Chinese pharmacy), and doctoral degrees in 4 programs (pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutics). Position Type 1: Position offered by the National Program of High-Level Overseas Talents (Also known as the “One-Thousand-Talents Program”) type A
Responsibilities:
The “One-Thousand-Talents Program” expert (type A) shall lead disciplinary development trends in the world. He should promote the international influence of the subject and the levels of the members in his team. He shall improve the skills and qualities of teaching and scientific research, facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation. He shall conduct innovative researches and aim at breakthroughs and remarkable achievements to speed up ZJU developing into a world level university.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree granted overseas and, in principle, be 55 years of age or under.
(2) The applicant should hold full professorship or an equivalent title in a prestigious foreign higher education or research institution, world- famous enterprise or financial institution.
(3) The applicant should have been engaged in research work in natural sciences, engineering technologies, economics, finance, management, or other fields. He should possess extraordinary research capabilities: he should have published influential academic papers on core journals in the last 5 years, or have won notable international prizes in science or mastered significant experimental skills and key technologies in scientific projects.
(4) The applicant is expected to work in ZJU for at least 9 months annually after recruitment.
Remuneration:
(1) Payment contains two parts: annual salary and allowances. The exact amount differs from person to person according to agreement.
(2) Those qualified may apply for one of the apartments specifically reserved by ZJU for top-level talents.Others may be entitled to a sum of money for settlement.
(3) Research funds will be allocated by ZJU from “Project 985” funds. Research assistants may be employed if necessary, the funding for whom comes from the research fund.
(4) ZJU will arrange for the employment of the applicant’s spouse if the applicant is accepted.
(5) A lump sum of RMB 1,000,000 (tax-free) will be provided by the Central Government of China as subsidy. Another lump sum of RMB 1,000,000 (tax-free) will be also provided by Zhejiang Province as science and technology awards.

(2) The Zhejiang Provincial High-Level Overseas Talents shall look to the demands of important national strategies or the demands of development in cutting-edge sciences and technologies in the world. He shall apply for and take charge of national key scientific research projects. He shall conduct original researches on significant theoretical and practical issues, and tackle problems in key research areas. He shall aim at breakthroughs and remarkable achievements.
(3) The Zhejiang Provincial High-Level Overseas Talents shall give lectures for core courses and supervise graduate students.
(4) The Zhejiang Provincial High-Level Overseas Talents shall invite academic talents to form teaching and research teams with the high-level faculties in ZJU. He shall guide young teachers and train members of different levels in his teams. He shall facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) In principle, the applicant should hold a doctoral degree granted overseas and be 55 years of age or under.
(2) In principle, the applicant should hold full associate professorship or above (or an equivalent title) in a prominent foreign higher-education or research institution, or, hold a high or middle-level management position in a world- famous enterprise or institution.
(3) The applicant demonstrates outstanding capabilities in scientific innovation. His research capabilities and achievements are recognized by peers as at leading level.
(4) In principle, the applicant shall work full-time in ZJU.
Remuneration:
(1) Payment contains two parts: annual salary and allowances. The exact amount differs from person to person according to agreement.

(2) The applicant should be in good health conditions. He shall work in ZJU for at least 9 months annually after recruitment. Applicants in the field of natural sciences should be under 45 years of age while applicants in the field of humanities or social sciences should be under 50 years of age.

Remuneration:
(1) The “Cheung Kong Scholar” Special-Term Professor will be provided with an annual allowance of RMB100,000 (tax free) by the Ministry of Education.
(2) The “Cheung Kong Scholar” Special-Term Professor in the disciplines of experimental sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine will be granted a research fund of RMB 2,000,000 by ZJU. The “Cheung Kong Scholar” Special-Term Professor in the disciplines of non-experimental sciences, humanities and social sciences will be granted a research fund of RMB 500,000 by ZJU.

(4) The “Qiushi” Special-Term Professor shall invite academic talents to form teaching and research teams with the high-level faculties in ZJU. Remuneration:
(1) The “Qiushi” Special-Term Professor will be provided with an annual allowance of RMB100,000 by Zhejiang University.
(2) Apart from salary, insurances and other benefits granted in accordance with relevant State regulations, an additional allowance from ZJU will be provided. An annual total of RMB 100,000 will be provided to the “Qiushi” Special-Term Professor for the first three years as start-up fund.
(3) The “Qiushi” Special-Term Professor in the disciplines of experimental sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine will be granted a research fund of RMB 2,000,000 by ZJU. The “Qiushi” Special-Term Professor in the disciplines of non-experimental sciences, economics and management, humanities and social sciences will be granted a research fund of RMB 500,000 by ZJU.
(4) Those qualified may apply for one of ZJU’s reserved apartments for top-level talents, or a total of RMB 600,000 will be provided by installment as the settlement for housing.

Position Type 5: Professor
Responsibilities:
(1) He who holds this position should conceive innovative ideas on disciplinary development and academic research. He should put forward proposals on prospective research areas and guide his discipline in ZJU to develop in accordance with the global trend.
(2) He who holds this position should plan and take charge of state key academic research projects and bring his discipline in ZJU to a leading position within China and an influential position in the world.
(3) He who holds this position shall be responsible for building an academic echelon in a certain research direction of his discipline. He shall give lectures for core courses for undergraduate students, supervise graduate students and provide valuable suggestions on the reform of the curricula and teaching materials.
(4) He who holds this position shall attain academic achievements of great significance and influence.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree. He should hold assistant professorship or above (or an equivalent title) in a prominent university or a university’s key disciplines, or demonstrate research achievements and capabilities equivalent to those of the ZJU professors in his field.
(2) The applicant should be in good health conditions. Generally he should be under 50 years of age. Once recruited, he shall work full-time at ZJU.
Remuneration:
(1) ZJU will provide salary, medical insurance and other benefits in accordance with relevant regulations.
(2) A lump sum of RMB 30,000 to 40,000 will be provided as settling-in allowance.
(3) The outstanding expert with great academic influence who is urgently needed in his discipline will be specially provided a fund of RMB 300,000 to RMB 800,000 for the development of his discipline.
(4) Those qualified may apply for one of the apartments specifically reserved by ZJU for top-level talents, or a total of RMB 500,000 will be provided by installment as the settlement for housing.
(5) Those with a doctoral degree who are under 35 years of age will be provided a monthly total of RMB 1,000 by ZJU as start-up fund for the first three years after they report for duty at ZJU.

Position Type 6: Associate Professor
Responsibilities:
(1) He who holds this position should apply for and take charge of research projects of the national, provincial and ministerial levels, or conduct important researches that have great influence upon the development of the nation’s economy. He should make innovative achievements in a certain research direction in his discipline.
(2) He shall give lectures for core courses for undergraduate students.
(3) He shall assist the planning of disciplinary developments and assist the leading professor in his discipline to gain great academic achievements on one research direction of his discipline.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree granted by a prominent university home or abroad. He should have accomplished certain academic achievements through postdoctoral studies or other research experiences. He is an excellent young scholar with great potentials.
(2) The applicant should be in good health conditions. Generally he should be under 40 years of age. Once recruited he shall work full-time at ZJU.
Remuneration:
(1) ZJU will provide salary, medical insurance and other benefits in accordance with relevant regulations.
(2) A lump sum of RMB 30,000 to 40,000 will be provided as settling-in allowance.
(3) A total of RMB 250,000 will be provided by installment as the settlement for housing.

Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should be in good health conditions. Once recruited, he shall work full-time at ZJU.
(2) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree from a prominent university home or abroad. He should have had post-doctoral studies or other research experiences. He should demonstrate strong research capabilities.
(3) Generally, he who holds this position should be under 35 years of age.
Remuneration:
(1) ZJU will provide salary, medical insurance and other benefits in accordance with relevant regulations.
(2) A lump sum of RMB 10,000 to 40,000 will be provided as settling-in allowance.

(3) He who holds this position shall undertake other tasks assigned by the specific college which offers the position.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should demonstrate praiseworthy moral character, meticulous and objective scholarship, great academic potentials and team spirit. He should be in good health conditions and once recruited, he shall work full-time at ZJU.
(2) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree. He should have good education and work experiences. He should also demonstrate research achievements or capabilities approximately equivalent to those of the ZJU professors in his field.
(3) The applicant should meet other requirements specified by the college which offers the position.

(2) He who holds this position should keep track of the cutting-edge researches in his discipline. He should tackle major technical problems during research and make contributions in important research projects and the development of his discipline.
(3) He who holds this position should undertake other tasks assigned by the college which offers the position.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should demonstrate praiseworthy moral character, meticulous and objective scholarship, great academic potentials and team spirit. He should be in good health conditions and once recruited, he shall work full-time at ZJU.
(2) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree and he should have some research experiences. He should have the research achievements or capabilities approximately equivalent to those of the ZJU associate professors in his field.
(3) The applicant should meet other qualification requirements specified by the college which offers the position.
Remuneration:
(1) The annual salary system (including salary, allowances, social insurance and benefits in accordance with relevant state regulations) is adopted. A total of RMB 80,000 to 120,000 (including an annual total of RMB 25,000 as the settlement for housing) will be given monthly as annual salary.

Position Type 10: Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Responsibilities:
(1) He who holds this position should put research as his primary responsibility and complete his post-doctoral research tasks as planned.
(2) He who holds this position should apply to the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation or other research funds for the funding of his innovative projects. He should collaborate with other professors in important research projects and publish papers in major academic journals.
(3) He should undertake some teaching or student administration tasks if required by his college or his discipline.
Qualifications and Requirements:
(1) The applicant should be in good health conditions. Once recruited, he shall work full-time at ZJU.
(2) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree and demonstrate strong research capabilities.
(3) The applicant should be under 40 years of age.
Remuneration:
(1) A total of RMB 60,000 or above will be provided as annual salary, those who hold a doctoral degree from a prominent university abroad will be provided for RMB100,000 or above as annual salary(including salary, allowances, social insurance and benefits in accordance with relevant state regulations).

Position Type 11: Non-Full-Time High-Level Positions
(1) Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor
The candidate should be a world-renowned overseas scholar. If accepted, he shall work at ZJU for more than 2 months annually. Candidates in the discipline of natural sciences should be under 55 years of age, and those in humanities and social sciences should be under 60 years of age. The Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor will receive a monthly allowance of RMB 15,000 granted by the Ministry of Education during his term of office. An additional monthly allowance of RMB 15,000 and a research fund of RMB 300,000 to 500,000 will be provided by ZJU. (2) Qiushi Chair Professor
The candidate should be a world-renowned scholar under 70 years of age. If accepted, he shall work at ZJU for at least 2-3 months annually. The Qiushi Chair Professor will receive a monthly allowance of RMB 30,000.
(3) Chair Professors Set by Various Foundations
The candidate should be a world-renowned overseas scholar. He will be appointed in accordance with requirements specified by various foundations and titled accordingly as Kuang-piu Chair Professor, Y.Q Tang Chair Professor, Pao Yu-Kong Chair Professor, etc. These chair professors shall be appointed for a period of 1-3 years and they shall work for at least 2-3 consecutive months annually at ZJU. Specific work schedule, workload and objectives will be specified by contract. Allowances will be given according to the standards of each foundation respectively.
