Zhejiang University set up the post-doctoral station in 1985 which was initially approved by Ministry of Personnel all over the country. Now it has 30 post-doctor scientific research stations covering the fields of social studies, humanities, natural science studies, engineering studies, agronomy studies, iatrology and economic&managing studies. These programs all have the rights to confer the doctor degree.

Setting up post-doctoral station offers a new method to introduce, select and foster the backbone for all the programs and scientific research in Zhejiang university. For this reason, university authorities set up the Post-doctor Administration Office which mainly deals with the external affairs, for example, enrolling and checking out of the post-doctors and all kinds of daily affairs.

To improve the post-doctors' working and living conditions, Ministry of Personnel allocated special funds to build up the post-doctor apartments; to support the intake of post-doctors in newly-developed subjects, inter-discipline subjects and basic subjects, Ministry of Personnel and Zhejiang university set up special funds for post-doctors. To promote the academic exchange among the post-doctors and to activate their cultural life, the post-doctors have established the post-doctoral sodality(registered organization) under the support of Ministry of Personnel of Zhejiang province.

Under the support of national key programs, national key labs, national engineering research centers , national social studies research centers and numerous inter-discipline subjects research institutes, our university has taken in 492 post-doctors since the founding of post-doctoral station in 1985.Among them seven came from USA, France, Germany, Russia, Algeria, Egypt and India respectively and 18 got the doctor degree abroad .
