During Nov. 18th to 19th, Prof. Dhiren Thankker, dean of College of Pharmacy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (COP-UNC), Prof. Stephen Eckel, vice dean of COP-UNC and Prof. Leaf Huang et al visited CPS-ZJU. Prof. HU Fuqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee, Prof. GAO Jianqing and Prof. FAN Xiaohui, vice deans of CPS-ZJU, Prof. YU Lushan and Prof. ZHANG Xiangnan attended the meeting.

On the morning of 19th, the delegation visited our college and had a discussion with the leadership of CPS-ZJU. At the meeting, Prof. HU Fuqiang warmly welcomed the delegation from COP-UNC. After that, Prof. FAN Xiaohui briefly introduced CPS-ZJU, while Prof. Dhiren Thankker also gave a brief introduction of UNC. Both UNC and CPS-ZJU conducted in-depth discussions on joint training of talents, academic exchange and scientific research cooperation and reached an agreement for further cooperation.

In the afternoon, Prof. Leaf Huang gave an academic lecture for teachers and students. Prof. Leaf Huang introduced his research work in pharmaceutical preparations. His team found that activated fibroblasts can also express sigma receptors and achieve highly efficient and specified transfection in vivo by using AEAA target-modified nanoparticles targeting sigma receptors. Prof. Huang's experimental team used the strategy of “murder a person with a borrowed knife” and transfect tumor-associated fibroblasts to express tumor cytotoxic TRAIL protein, which significantly inhibited tumor growth. In a model of cirrhosis, they also applied a similar strategy to reverse the deleterious activation of hepatic stellate cells. The lively lecture won high praise from the teachers and students present. After the report, Prof. Huang patiently answered questions from the teachers and students.

The subject of Pharmaceutical science in UNC is one of the top disciplines in the United States. The visiting of UNC delegation has deepened the mutual understanding and academic exchanges between CPS-ZJU and COP-UNC, laying a good foundation for the subsequent cooperation in education and research.
