The 2026 SDG Global Summer School pharmacy module, AI Meets Pharmacy: AI-driven Pharmaceutical Innovation and Application, co-hosted by Zhejiang University School of Pharmacy and the University of Sydney School of Pharmacy, concluded successfully on July 17 after a two-week run at ZJU’s Zijingang Campus.Thirty-three international students from 10 leading universities across the globe took part in the intensive program centered on AI-powered pharmaceutical breakthroughs.Cutting-edge interdisciplinary trainingEleven distinguished scholars from home and abroad delivered lectures spanning intelligent drug delivery, AI target identification, biopharmaceuticals, smart traditional Chinese medicine manufacturing and precision clinical pharmacy. Teaching combined classroom sessions, literature reviews, academic workshops and group research presentations to immerse participants in the latest cross-sector developments. Industry and clinical field visitsMoving beyond textbooks, participants embarked on a series of integrated research, clinical and industrial tours. They visited ZJU Yangtze River Delta Smart Oasis Innovation Center to learn about the commercialization of smart pharmaceutical technologies, toured Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital to witness AI diagnosis platforms and digital pharmacy services, and explored Betta Pharmaceuticals to observe full-process intelligent innovative drug development and production.Cross-cultural immersionA suite of cultural activities complemented academic learning to foster international communication. Participants crafted herbal sachets to learn about classic Chinese medicinal herbs and their therapeutic properties, practiced Chinese calligraphy, and toured the ZJU History Museum to experience the university’s century-long spirit of “Seeking Truth and Pursuing Innovation.”Participants presented group research projects focused on AI pharmacy as their final assessment before receiving official completion certificates.The summer school established a vital international platform for cross-disciplinary AI pharmaceutical research, highlighting ZJU Pharmacy’s robust standing in intelligent pharmacy and global education. The school will continue advancing digital-pharmaceutical integration to cultivate versatile international professionals supporting sustainable global health.
