The Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Zhejiang University, based on the discipline of pharmacology, was established in 2006. It mainly focuses on studies on novel mechanisms of drug action, new drug targets and the pharmacodynamics & toxicology of innovative drugs.
Through a decade-odd years of development, many distinctive research directions have been established, including the discovery of drug targets for major diseases, the studies of the efficacy and molecular mechanisms of anti-cancer drugs, the pharmacology of the central nervous system, the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular & liver disease drug research, drug target structural and functional research, drug toxicity molecular mechanism research, and the endocrine pharmacological research such as immunity, diabetes, & reproduction.
The institute has a technical team with strong innovative ability, high academic level, and active research in the frontier field of pharmacology. There are 22 full-time researchers, including 5 professors and 2 researchers, 3 associate professors, and 8 post-doctoral fellows. 10 faculty members were received with the national titles and 2 are Qiushi Distinguished Professors of ZJU.,.
There are currently 40-odd doctoral students and 50-odd master students . It has established a tertiary national laboratory of traditional Chinese medicine, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Anti-tumor Drug Preclinical Research, Zhejiang Provincial Key Discipline of Pharmacology, Zhejiang Provincial Key Discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacology, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Zhejiang Primary School Key technology innovation team for small molecular drug research and development. This institute also participates in the construction of the key laboratory of drug treatment for special injury prevention , the key laboratory of medical neurobiology of the Ministry of Health, the neuropsychiatric innovation team of the Ministry of Education, and the drug safety evaluation research of Zhejiang University that has passed the national NMPA certification First-class pharmacology laboratories such as the center.
In the past five years, our institute has presided over 60 national-level scientific research projects, including 3 candidates of new drug projects for the national 13th Five-Year Plan; 2 key projects of the National Natural Scientific Foundation of China; 1 The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 Key National & International Science and Technology Cooperation Special project respectively. Moreover, we are also in possession over 30 General and Youth NSFC programs and over 20 provincial and ministerial programs, obtained 40-odd national inventive patents, applied for 37 national inventive patents, and were awarded 4 Class I National New Drug Approvals; published over 400 SCI academic papers, edited and published 5 scientific and technological books and textbooks, and participated in the edition of 4 books.
Our institute has established stable and close scientific & technological cooperation, academic exchanges and joint training of graduate students with universities, research institutes and some large pharmaceutical companies at home and abroad, which has greatly improved the level of the research team and its reputation. In recent years, graduate students trained by our institute have been sent to Harvard University, Yale University, Cornell University, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Roche Pharmaceuticals and other domestic and overseas scientific research institutions, universities, and well-known companies to engage the pharmacy-related research and management. It has made important contributions to our country's new drug research & development and the advancement of pharmacology.
