Being committed to cultivating high-quality innovators with overall skills, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Zhejiang University (CPS-ZJU) cooperates with Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica(SIMM), equipping pharmacy students with practical experimental technique. 14 undergraduate students from CPS visited ZJU-SIMM National Off-campus Pharmaceutical Practice Education Base for College Students in SIMM for their four-week internship. Students have completed the internship successfully and have recently returned to college.

On Aug. 6^th, organized by Undergraduate Education Administration Officers, 14 students in CPS officially started their internship in SIMM. At the kick-off meeting, DING Xueqing, the manager of Comprehensive Security Department, gave the students a security education. Teacher HU Zhongliang introduced the basic information of SIMM. We were inspired to cherish the opportunity and determined to improve ourselves. After the meeting, Students started internship in different research groups with huge enthusiasm.

Following the meticulous design by SIMM teachers, 14 students began their intern in different professional emphasis, including the Discovery and Design of Drugs, Pharmaceutical Preparation, Pharmacology, Chinese Materia Medica, Natural Medical Chemistry and Chemical Proteomics. Students actively communicated with teachers and graduate students in the laboratory, blended in the environment and ardently participated in experimental tasks. By conducting experiments in the lab, attending seminars and listening to scientific reports, students have comprehended abundant up to date information in pharmacy and novel interdiscipline knowledge in great depth, exercising their overall abilities. With full enthusiasm and earnest attitude, they gained the recognition of teachers in SIMM.

During the internship, Associate Professor ZHANG Xiangnan and DONG Xiaowu paid a visit to the students. They asked about students’ living, study and working conditions. The students actively reported their latest news. Teacher HU Zhongliang and PENG Jun also gave full compliments to the students. The teachers in SIMM also took the students to the oriental pearl TV tower and China Art Museum, Shanghai during leisure time, which gave the students much relaxation and motivation.

At the report-back meeting, all the 14 students gave an excellent report on the one month internship including their feelings and prospects. Mr. Hu issued the certificates to six excellent students: ZHENG Yin, GUO Yazhou, ZHAO Qinxin, SUN Ziyu, YE Jianyu and FANG Haotian, encouraging them to keep working.

After the internship, many students described it as meaningful and unforgettable. YE Jianyu from class 1502 says:” That month was a treasure to me because it gave me manual dexterity, determination and a better understanding of my major. I appreciate CPS for giving me this chance. ”

The joint efforts made by CPS-ZJU and SIMM are what made this internship successful. CPS will continue to raise the devotion to practical education to cultivate all-round students in pharmaceutical science.
